Every year I organize and put on small Art Retreats in the Yukon or nearby Alaska. These retreats are casual, fun and relaxing, relatively inexpensive and open to everyone regardless of their level of art ability.

It has been the tradition to have an art retreat in Atlin B.C. every April on either the 3rd or 4th weekend. I have also offered retreats in Haines Alaska and hope to organize other retreats in other communities in the Yukon in the future. If you are interested in knowing what this years retreats will be please contact me.

What is usually involved in a retreat?

Retreats are fun, informal events for small groups, a maximum number of participants per retreat has been 10 or 11. I provide workshops on a particular theme or medium such as oils, watercolours, outdoor sketching and so on.

The schedule starts off usually on a Friday evening with a welcome introduction and a small exercise. We continue Saturday morning around 9:30 am with a break for lunch. The afternoon holds another workshop. For Saturday night dinner we hold a potluck dinner and relax with wine or drinks of choice. Often people go back to the rented hall and work on their projects in the evening as well. Sunday has us starting around 10 am and winding up in the mid afternoon.

For accommodation I make sure that the rental units we stay in have kitchen facilities so that people can plan their own meals. This way people can lower their costs somewhat if they want and also enjoy the company of the group. In some cases, there are no operating restaurants, so this is important consideration.

The cost for the retreat includes two nights accommodation. This is usually based on a shared room. If participants want to have a private room or provide for their own accommodation, the price will be adjusted to reflect that. The cost in the past has been approximately $250 which includes some art supplies. This could vary somewhat depending on the lodging and supplies that are provided. There will be a suggested list of supplies that one should bring as well. A $100 deposit is required to hold your place. This is partially refundable if you cancel within 2 weeks notice.
