Workshops

Afternoon Workshops: 3 hours, workshops available upon request

Afternoon workshops are the perfect type of activity if you have a little free time and are looking to spend it creatively. Perhaps you have visitors or you are a visitor yourself and would like a local cultural experience and a little souvenir to take home with you. The workshops are small and intimate as I can accommodate 4 people comfortably in the studio and up to 6 if needed. We can
arrange for larger groups if given enough notice. I can also cater to different levels of experience.

The price for 3 hours is: $300 for 1-2 people
$100 per person for groups 3 or more
There may be an small additional charge for materials.

Watercolour Beginner Landscape

Starting off with introducing a few typical watercolour techniques we then play a bit with mixing colours. With these bases under our belt I will introduce the steps involved in painting a landscape starting with creating a preliminary pencil sketch and ending with a finished painting. Materials: $15/per person

How to do a Pencil Sketch

Drawing is a wonderful tool to have even if you don’t plan on being an artist. It takes a lot of practice to learn to draw well, but here you will get an opportunity to explore some of the techniques of seeing and drawing from the right side of the brain. No additional cost for materials.

An Afternoon with Acrylic or Oil Paints.

Here we start with either a still life work from a photo to develop a small painting. The class starts with an introduction on how to develop a composition, different stroke techniques, how to layer paints, some of the common mediums such as dryers and thinners. Materials $20/per person

Glass on Glass Mosaic

Glass is one of the most forgiving mediums I know. In fact I have never seen a project that anyone has done that I never liked. In this workshop we develop a small glass on glass painting. It can be totally abstract or representational. This is a really fun workshop if you like to play with colour. Bring your own lunch, snacks will be provided. Materials: $45/per person

Plein Air (outdoors) Sketching Workshop: dependant on the weather Choice of pencil sketching or use of acrylic or watercolour paints

Working from nature can be one of the most satisfying ways of getting outdoors and saving an impression of the area at the same time. The Impressionist painters did this very successfully in attempts to bring “air” into their paintings.

In this workshop we travel to a location nearby dependant on the choice of materials. In the case of pencils and sketch pads, since they are light and easily carried, we can do a little walk or hike up one of the many nearby trails and do several sketches along the way, or we can take in the town of Carcross. In the case of acrylics, we will be using a lot more equipment and painting takes longer so we will find locations that are closer to car access. For acrylic plein air workshops, some knowledge of the medium would be an asset but not necessary. Bring your own lunch. Snacks will be provided. Materials: Acrylics workshop $45/per person. Watercolour workshop: $25/per person. Pencil workshop $5/ per person

A full day with Acrylic or Oil Paints

Similar to the half day workshop we start with either a still life work from a photo to develop a small painting. The class starts with an introduction on how to develop a composition, different stroke techniques, how to layer paints, some of the common mediums such as dryers and thinners. Having full day allows more depth and instruction as well as the option of doing a larger painting. Materials
$45/per person

Workshops being developed for the Winter 2016

We are in the process now of refining these workshops. A little moreexperimenting and equipment is needed before we can offer them to a class.

Fun with Wool - a full day workshop

We raise our own milking sheep here and so we shear and process the wool from the sheep in the late spring/summer. In this workshop you will start with a tour of the barn and gardens where the sheep are, getting a closer acquaintance of your benefactors. Then you will get a brief introduction and get to try carding and cleaning wool. You will be shown how wool is dyed and then try small needle
felting project of your own. Therein no limit to the imagination and this is one of those fun workshops where this is very apparent!

Fun with Mosaics - a full day or weekend workshop

Mosaics are another of the most ancient and extremely permanent materials used in artwork around the world. Mosaics are also very forgiving and fascinating to work with, but a project takes longer to complete. There will be a few choices outlined in more detail when the course is available.

Weekend Retreats

Atlin BC and Haines AK retreats

I have organized many of these retreats in the past and they have always been a lot of fun. However, I do have an aging mother living in Ontario who I am committed to visiting at least twice a year. For awhile then, these retreats are on hold. I do intend to organize and offer them in the future and will be advertising these online as well as elsewhere.
